En 1950, el Apartheid de Sudáfrica no ha hecho más que empezar. Amina, de mente abierta, ha roto las reglas de su convencional comunidad india. Miriam, por el otro lado, es una madre cariñosa para sus hijos y una esposa sedada y subordinada de un hombre machista y fracasado. Cuando Miriam y Amina se encuentran, su inesperada atracción pone en peligro el equilibrio de ambas.

In 1950's South Africa, apartheid is just beginning. Free-spirited Amina has broken all the rules of her own conventional Indian community in South Africa. Miriam, on the other hand, is a doting mother to her children and a demure and subservient wife to her chauvinistic, frustrated husband. When Miriam meets Amina, their unexpected attraction throws them both off balance.
